During the late 1970s and early 1980s, the author composed several songs on Yogi Ramsuratkumar. Whenever the author visited Yogi, Yogi would lovingly enquire whether any new song had been composed in his name. If the author replied in the affirmative, Yogi would immediately ask him to sing it.

Knowing this, whenever the author wrote a new song, he would also compose a tune for it, so that it could be sung directly before Yogi.

In 1977, at Yogi’s suggestion, the author read Swami Ram Tirtha’s book ‘In the Woods of God Realization’. The book had a profound impact on him. His mind and heart became saturated with the teachings of Swami Ram Tirtha, and he found himself constantly reflecting upon them and speaking about them.

During this period of deep inner absorption, the author composed a new song on Yogi. The song carried within it the spirit and essence of Swami Ram Tirtha’s teachings. Along with the lyrics, the author composed a tune so that the song could be sung in Yogi’s presence.

A few days later, the author visited Yogi. As was his custom, Yogi asked whether a new song had been composed. The author replied that he had indeed written one. Yogi then asked him to sing it.

The author began singing. Several devotees were seated before Yogi at that time. As the song unfolded, Yogi listened with complete attention. He was a wonderful listener—totally present, absorbing every word and note.

When the song ended, Yogi asked the author to sing it once again. The author sang it a second time.

Then, for a third time, Yogi asked the author to sing the same song again. The author complied and sang it once more.

Yogi was filled with immense joy. Suddenly, he rose from his seat and began to dance to the tune of the song, overflowing with divine ecstasy. His joy was boundless. The radiance of his bliss engulfed everyone present.

Moved by Yogi’s ecstasy, the devotees spontaneously joined the author in singing. The collective singing intensified the joy, and Yogi’s delight soared beyond all limits.

To witness Yogi dancing in divine joy, immersed in the song born of devotion and truth, was itself a rare benediction—an unforgettable moment of grace for all who were present.

That song became especially dear to Yogi. Throughout the day, he would ask the author to sing it again and again. Even during the final days of his physical presence, Yogi would call the author to the podium and request him to sing that very song.

There were several other songs composed by the author as well—songs that Yogi listened to with delight, joy, and deep appreciation. Yogi would encourage the author to sing them often, receiving them not merely as music, but as offerings born of devotion and truth.

After Yogi attained Mahasamadhi, the author felt a deep inner calling to preserve those songs that Yogi had loved and blessed. With reverence and gratitude, the author recorded the songs and released them in the form of an audio cassette and later as an audio CD.

The collection was named Samarpan—an offering of love, remembrance, and surrender at the holy feet of Yogi Ramsuratkumar.

All these songs—and many more composed by the author—were sung before Yogi during his physical presence. Yogi loved them deeply and would ask to hear them repeatedly. Music and poetry were not mere art forms for Yogi; they were living expressions of devotion and vehicles of divine vibration.

Yogi also held immense adoration for the songs composed by great Tamil scholars such as Dr. T. P. Meenakshisundaranar, Sri Periasamy Thooran, and Vageesa Kalanidhi K. V. Jagannathan. These scholars composed numerous songs glorifying Yogi Ramsuratkumar. Their compositions were later compiled and printed in book form, and Yogi repeatedly expressed his wish that these sacred songs be preserved with care and reverence.

Whenever devotees sang these Tamil hymns before him, Yogi would enter a state of divine ecstasy. The entire atmosphere would be charged with spiritual vibrations, and those present would feel the living presence of Grace.

Regarding one particular song composed by Dr. T. P. Meenakshisundaranar, Yogi remarked with great conviction:

“This is not merely a song. This is a mantra. In the future, a man will come who will write volumes and volumes on this song.”

Vageesa Kalanidhi Sri K. V. Jagannathan, a towering Tamil scholar, composed hundreds of spontaneous songs on Yogi Ramsuratkumar. He often sang extempore, while devotees recorded the hymns. Yogi especially loved one particular composition and asked devotees to sing it again and again:

காமம் அகற்றும் திருவுளமும்

கடிந்துபேசாத் திருவாயும்;

நாமம் அகற்றும் திருமொழியும்;

நலிவை அகற்றும் திருக்கண்ணும்;

சேமம் வளர்க்கும் திருவுருவும்

சிறந்தே உள்ளம் நிற்கவைக்கும்

ராம சுரத்குமாரென்னும்

நல்ல யோகி வாழியரோ.

The holy mind that removes lust

The holy mouth that never utters harsh words

Long live ye great Yogi!

Sri Periasamy Thooran composed twelve songs on Yogi Ramsuratkumar, most of them after he was afflicted by a paralytic stroke. At Yogi’s request, Murugeshji released these songs as an audio cassette. Yogi listened to this cassette frequently and derived great joy from it. He often asked devotees to repeatedly sing Thooran’s simple and powerful bhajan:

“Yoga Sadguru Sri Rama Sadguru.”

In 1982, the author composed twenty-five songs glorifying Yogi’s holy name and submitted them at Yogi’s lotus feet. Yogi asked the author to sing all of them and expressed deep happiness after listening.

In 1994, Yogi again remembered these songs and requested Rathika, the author’s wife, to sing them repeatedly in the ashram. Yogi then instructed the author to publish them. Accordingly, the songs were compiled and released as a book titled Nama Mahimai.

Copies of the book were offered to Yogi, who arranged for their distribution among devotees. One copy was personally given by Yogi to Sri Om Prakash Yogini of Ramji Ashram, Kumarakoil. With immense devotion, she memorized the songs, reprinted them locally, and distributed them throughout Kanyakumari district. Even today, devotees at Ramji Ashram recite these songs daily in remembrance of Yogi.

Yogi was a great lover of music and poetry. His knowledge of Tamil literature was profound and spontaneous. He spoke often about Subramania Bharati and his poems, and about Kalki Krishnamurthy, recommending the celebrated novel Ponniyin Selvan to the author.

Yogi once suggested that the author spend time in the company of Kannadasan, but the author replied that Yogi alone was enough. Yogi smiled with satisfaction on hearing this.

Yogi spoke fluently about poets across Indian languages and deeply loved Kurai Ondrum Illai of C. Rajagopalachari, which he listened to almost daily during his final years.

He explained the many regional versions of the Ramayana and held special reverence for the Ramcharitmanas. He cherished the bhajans of Mirabai and Kabir, revered Rabindranath Tagore, and admired the moral depth of Leo Tolstoy, often urging close devotees to read his short stories.

Yogi’s life was woven with poetry, saints, gurus, music, and God. His understanding of Indian and English literature was vast and effortless. He could speak with equal ease about poets of Europe and India—not as a scholar, but as one who had lived their truths.
